Reducing the cost of living in Arizona and expanding economic opportunity
Many Americans are currently facing hard economic times–the cost of gas has risen and the cost of everyday goods and services have as well. I am committed to prioritizing reducing these costs, fighting inflation, fixing the problems that plague our supply chains, and stopping price gouging where it is occurring so that everyday Americans can feel financially secure.
I want Arizona to be at the forefront of creating our new energy future - we have the sun, the talent, and the determination to do it. With its abundance of sunshine, Arizona should be a world leader in solar energy production. I am committed to bringing the resources from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to Arizona to expand the production and manufacturing of solar in Arizona and create good paying jobs in the process. Prioritizing clean energy production will strengthen Arizona's economy, help lower carbon emissions, and ensure energy independence for Arizona and America.
Reproductive rights, including the right to privacy in making these choices
With the overturning of Roe v. Wade, women have lost equal rights when it comes to their self-determination, their healthcare, and their privacy. Women today in Arizona now have fewer rights than their mothers. I promise to fight against this gross overreach of government every step of the way and to do everything within my power to protect women and their rights. Everyone has a right to choose what happens to their own body—every woman and every situation is unique, and no one should be telling a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body. When making personal medical decisions, the government should not be imposing one-size-fits-all laws on women or medical professionals.
This kind of drastic action is just the beginning. Arizona’s Attorney General has stated he will enforce a law created before the existence of the state itself now that Roe v. Wade is overturned. Politicians in Arizona have discussed eliminating contraception. The Supreme Court decision mentioned rolling back privacy rights and overturning the right to same sex marriage. The right to privacy, the right to travel, and the right to love who you choose are fundamental, human rights. As your Representative I promise I will protect and defend them.
Ensuring Arizonans continue to have access to the water they need to thrive and solving environmental crises.
Water scarcity and availability are issues that must be addressed immediately and head on—as our water supply decreases it will begin to impact our tourism industry, our property values, and our energy production. The Southwestern region of our country is in an extreme drought and Arizona is one of the last states in line for water rights. One of my top priorities in Congress will be the creation of a Southwestern state water caucus. In this caucus states can come together to create and employ collaborative solutions for our region. By partnering with states that have a water surplus from flooding, or border the Gulf Mexico or the Pacific Ocean, as well as with countries that have similarly arid environments, we can become a world leader when it comes to water issues and alleviate our dwindling water supplies. Our environmental issues don’t stop at our state borders, and neither should our solutions.
Climate change and its effects are a global phenomenon whose ills should have been addressed decades ago – the next best time to address climate change is right now. As a country, and as a planet, we cannot afford inaction; we must exert every possible effort to reign in carbon emissions. The only way this can be done is through having everyone pulling together. We have a deadline to meet to ensure the health and safety of this planet and the only way to achieve it is by having Industry, government, and non-governmental organizations all work together.
Protect our Democracy
Every American, regardless of political affiliation is entitled to the right to vote, and the right to have that vote counted. Our democratic right to vote is foundational to what it means to be an American and I am committed to defending this right. The political extremism that led people like our current Representative David Schweikert to contest our free and fair elections must not go unchallenged. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike in Arizona deserve to have their voices heard.
I unequivocally support the passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. However, if Congress continues to refuse to pass it, I am committed to pulling out pieces of the bill and fighting to get voting protections passed even if it means piece by piece. Our right to vote is the foundation of our democracy and is too important to allow these essential guarantees to languish in Congress.
Ensuring everyone has access to health care and lowering the cost of insurance and prescription drugs.
Health care should be accessible, affordable, and transparent. Life-saving drugs should always be affordable, but so should medications that help people live their day-to-day lives a bit easier. Insurance companies shouldn’t determine what prescription drugs are best for you, you and your doctor should. I will work to lower the cost of prescription drugs by levying the purchasing power of the Federal government and by negotiating with prescription drug companies directly to lower costs.
